Auditions Announced for Teen Company Production of MACBETH

August 1, 2012

The NBYT Teen Company will hold auditions for Shakespeare’s Macbeth on Sunday, August 26 and Monday, August 27 at 6:00 p.m. at Trinity-on-Main Performance Center at 19 Chestnut Street in New Britain.  The production will be performed at Trinity-on-Main on November 16, 17 and 18. The production will be directed by NBYT Artistic Director David B. Sousa.

Auditions are open to 13 to 18 year-olds from any town. Roles are available for up to twenty actors, and all levels of experience are encouraged to audition. All roles, including Macbeth, will be cast gender blind. Those auditioning should prepare a monologue (which may be read) of ten to twenty lines from any of Shakespeare’s plays. Actors will also be given dialogue to read at auditions from scenes which will be provided online beforehand. To register for auditions, call (860) 515-8115 or email auditions@nbyt.org. Those cast will be asked to pay a participation fee of $50, but will receive two complimentary tickets for the production. No one, however, will be turned away for inability to pay, so please ask about financial assistance if necessary. Teens may also call with interest in production and backstage positions.

Often considered the darkest of Shakespeare’s tragedies, Macbeth is a tale about a couple’s thirst for power and its bloody consequences. Ghosts, witches, and many of the Bard’s most famous lines make Macbeth one of the most intense and often performed of Shakespeare’s works—despite its superstitious reputation as a cursed play.

The NBYT Teen Company is a program of New Britain Youth Theater in which teens can become involved in choosing, producing and promoting their own theater. The program offers leadership opportunities and a chance for teens to do the shows they want to do, all while under the guidance of NBYT directors.
