Want to Be Involved in Planning, Designing and Creating NBYT Performances? You Can!

Over the past two seasons at NBYT, we’ve realized that we’re more than just our performances and educational programs. We’re a true community theater—one where we focus on kids, teens and their families, and one where the work we all do together is just as important (and fun!) as the performances themselves. With that in mind, we’re inviting everyone who is a part of NBYT (or would like to be) to be more involved in our planning and the creation of what we do.

On Monday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m., NBYT is holding an open production meeting for its shows this season. What is an “open production meeting” you may ask? An open production meeting is our way of saying that we’re going to discuss the design, tech and promotional concepts for our productions this season, and that anyone who is interested or would like to become involved is welcome to attend and participate.

  • Parents, teens and children are invited. Although we appreciate all help, some jobs need kids to be at least a certain age—it depends on the job. All kids are welcome at the meeting though.
  • You can be part of planning and designing each of the productions in the NBYT season. At this meeting, we’ll talk mostly about Secret Santa and Macbeth, but we’ll also talk a little about spring productions and about a benefit performance we’d like to plan for March. Very soon, we’ll also start talking about ideas for the 2013-14 season.
  • You can help (or even learn how to help) with building, painting, or costume and prop collection and creation. Marketing, graphic design, and fundraising help are appreciated too. Don’t worry that we’ll just try to put you to work and make you do anything. Any amount of help with any part of what we do is appreciated. We want you to help with only what interests you and in whatever time you have available.

The meeting will be held at NBYT’s office at Trinity-on-Main at 19 Chestnut Street. If you’d like to help but can’t attend, let us know and we’ll remind you about the next one. These meetings will be held on the third Monday of each month.

We hope we’ll see some of you there!

Founded in 2010 as New Britain Youth Theater and selected by Connecticut Magazine as Connecticut’s Best Children’s Theater in 2017, No Boundaries Youth Theater is a professionally-run community and educational theater for children and teens. The name change in 2018 reflects that NBYT is—and always has been—a youth theater that accepts children from all towns and communities, with all abilities, and to be involved in a variety of ways both onstage and off. NBYT produces a season of performances by and for children and young adults, provides in-school and after-school arts-integrated and arts-enrichment educational programming, and offers drama classes and individual coaching and lessons. NBYT is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and young adults by encouraging creative thinking and collaborative teamwork, fostering self-confidence and self-esteem, and developing social, emotional, and academic skills through involvement in high-quality, low-cost programs in the performing arts. NBYT operates its programs in community spaces and schools throughout Greater New Britain, and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
