Winners will be notified through another post on this blog on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Tickets will be held at the door for pick-up. There is no purchase necessary to qualify or to to win.

Secret Santa tells the story of a school where outrageous pranks and selfish behavior bring down the Christmas season. Can the rumor that Santa’s own child is among them help to lift students’ spirits and finally make them behave? Filled with familiar Christmas music and a madcap Winter Carnival, the play was written by Denise Clapsaddle, author of last season’s I’m Getting Nothin’ for Christmas. The NBYT production, co-directed by Darren Farrington and Nicki LaPorte, will be the play’s premiere.

“This is a fun, fast-paced show that combines comedy, mystery and a feel-good Christmas message,” said Farrington, adding that the show stars children ages 5 through 14 and is appropriate for audiences of all ages. The cast of over forty children has come together from New Britain, Berlin, Bristol, Farmington, Middletown, Plainville, Southington, Torrington and West Hartford. The production’s venue, at Jefferson Elementary School located at 140 Horse Plain Road in New Britain near the Farmington border, is a 300-seat community performance space with recent renovations.

Secret Santawill be performed on Friday, December 7, at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, December 9, at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for children, students, and seniors. Special group rates are available for parties of ten or more. Tickets may be reserved by calling New Britain Youth Theater at 860-515-8115 or may be purchased online at Brown Paper Tickets.

NBYT is also collecting toys for the Hartford County office of Toys for Tots. New unwrapped toys may be donated at any one of the Secret Santa performances.

  1. When I was in 3rd grade, I received a 6″ ceramic bust of Jesus w/gold trim. It is very special to me, but still kind of awful…It qualifies as best and worst b/c it’s the only one I can recall!

  2. Thanks, Jen! For the drawing, we have to decide whether that qualifies as best or worst. We’ll just flip a coin to decide if you don’t mind.

  3. The best Secret Santa gift I was ever given was a pregnancy test. It was supposed to be a joke, as we had three kids and after our third had decided we were “done.” My Secret Santa didn’t know that I was hoping for a fourth child for my 30th birthday – five days after Christmas – and used that pregnancy test to confirm the pregnancy a few days after my birthday, on my husband’s 30th birthday! That Secret Santa gift was the best one because it brought news of great joy to my family.

The worst secret Santa gift I received was a sink drain/ stopper. I asked for candles and I got 2 car fresheners and the sink drain stopper. It did have a scent with it that went away after 2 days.

  5. Worst…Secret Santa family swap, I picked the simple brown paper gift bag. It held a dead cactus. It was one of those really cool swaps, where everybody ends up with some great handmade something or another…and I got a cactus that some Maine family member had let die on their front doorstep. Super special!
