Summer Is Here!

February 2, 2013

Summer logoOkay, it’s not quite summer, but registration has begun for summer! NBYT’s 2013 summer production for ages 7 through 14 will be Once on This Island Jr.

With catchy Caribbean music and a story loosely based on the original tale of The Little Mermaid, Once on This Island Jr. tells of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel returns to his family, Ti Moune is guided by the gods who rule the island on a journey to test the strength of her love. Once on This Island Jr. has many parts for children of all levels of experience. A strong chorus is needed and children will also play island animals, trees, and even a fierce storm.

Rehearsals will be held over a four-week half-day program (Mondays through Fridays) with a weekend of performances at the end of the program. All children who register will be cast in the show. Roles will be determined based on pre-program auditions to be scheduled in June. Over the course of the program, the cast will rehearse the performance—including music and choreography—and will also help to make some of the props and costumes to be used in the show.

Program Dates:    Monday, July 1 through Friday, July 26 (except July 4)
Program Hours:    9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Location:    Jefferson Elementary School, 140 Horse Plain Road
