New Britain Youth Theater has the following positions open for its 2013-14 season. Qualified college and graduate students, parents and grandparents (all over the age of 18) are encouraged to apply!

Teaching Artists and Assistants

NBYT seeks Teaching Artists and Teaching Assistants for after-school, in-school and homeschool theater programs in New Britain and Plainville for the 2013-14 school year.

Teaching Artists are responsible for lesson planning under the guidance of the executive staff; leading warm-ups, instruction, rehearsals and other activities; preparing for “share day” performances; and supervision of program participants.

Teaching Assistants will assist with warm-ups, acting instruction, rehearsals, and other planned activities; will support “share day” performances; and will help to supervise program participants.

All applicants must be reliable team players and be responsible for their own transportation. Availability during after-school hours (3:00 to 5:00 p.m.) is required of most staff. Daytime availability is required of some staff as well. Hourly salary is dependent upon experience.

Production and Program Assistant

NBYT seeks a part-time Production and Program Assistant to help with various shows and educational programs. The person in this position will help to maintain set, prop and costume inventories; will assist with set, prop, costume and technical needs for productions and share days as needed; and may assist with administrative, marketing and publicity tasks as well.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, motivated, and able to work well both independently and with directors, stage managers, teaching staff, and the NBYT executive staff. Schedules will include 5 to 10 hours each week, with some flexibility allowed. Hourly salary is dependent upon experience.

Costume and Set Designers

NBYT also seeks additional costume and set designers. Costume designers should have experience working with children, and should be able to build, borrow, or buy costumes within budget restraints. Set designers should be able to build or assemble their designs working with a volunteer staff. Payment of a small stipend will be on a project-by-project basis and based upon involvement and experience.
