UPDATE: Tickets are now on sale through Brown Paper Tickets. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Singers of all ages are wanted for You Can’t Do THAT at NBYT! Come be a part of this Celebration-Entertainment-Karaoke-Silent Auction-Once a Year Event for NBYT’s fourth birthday! Do you want to perform a song that we just shouldn’t do at NBYT? Something from a role that you’re totally wrong for? Or something (kid-friendly of course) from a show that we’d never do? Or maybe kids and staff, staff and parents, or kids and parents or other adults performing together?

This year, the first act will include performances by soloists, small groups, and a large chorus. There will be an audition for soloists and small groups on Wednesday, February 26, because time limits the number of performances. Two one-hour group rehearsals on Wednesdays, March 5 and 12, at 7:00 p.m. will also be required before the March 15 event. Anyone who wants to join in the large chorus only isn’t required to audition—just let us know that you want to be part of it!

The second act of You Can’t Do That at NBYT! will be karaoke. Anyone can sing, but we’re asking children to perform in groups of two or more to let the most people participate.

For solo and small group songs we’re encouraging:

  • kid-friendly songs from not-so-kid-friendly shows (that we otherwise “can’t do at NBYT”)
  • songs from roles that performers would be wrong for because of age, gender, or type
  • group performances (of 3 or more)
  • staff, parents, family, and other adult performers singing together with kids and teens

This year the event will also include a silent auction of family prizes! And of course we’ll have birthday cake and other desserts! We’ll also bring back the cash mocktail bar—with drinks this year that will include “Snow White‘s Poison Appletini,” “James and the Giant Peach Bellini,” a “Thames River Tonic” (for Great Expectations), and an “Into the Woods Potion Punch!”

To sign up for auditions or the chorus, email auditions@nbyt.org or call 860-515-8115.

NBYT also needs volunteers to help plan and organize this great event. To join the event committee or to donate an auction item, contact NBYT Executive Director and Producer Darren Farrington at darren@nbyt.org or 860-515-8115.

What’s that? You’re not a singer? That’s great too. Tickets will be $10 for individuals, and families of three or more are only $25! All proceeds will benefit NBYT programming.
