Be a Saturday Star at NBYT!

August 5, 2016

Stage PerformanceClasses and performance groups this fall at NBYT will let your star shine in acting, music, dance, and improv! Classes begin on Saturday, September 17!

Stage Performance, Section I:  Ages 6 – 10
Saturdays, 9:30 – 10:30 am
Stage Performance, Section II:  Ages 8 – 12
Saturdays, 10:40 – 11:40 am
8 weeks, $100

NBYT’s Stage Performance classes combine the instruction of drama classes with the fun of being in a show! They’re ideal for younger actors, children who want their first experience onstage—or a little more experience—or even older students who want to enhance their skills or who aren’t able to audition and rehearse for NBYT’s productions.

In eight-week terms, drama games and scenes are used to teach character development, storytelling, voice, movement, and how to perform in front of an audience. Older and experienced students work on scenes with a greater focus on character development and script analysis. The term ends with a “share day” performance” for family and friends.

Musical Theater Dance: Ages 10-16
Saturdays, 11:50 am – 12:50 pm
8 weeks, $100

A NEW class focusing on teaching non-dancers the basic skills for musical theater choreography and letting dancers with some experience brush up their steps. The class is open to anyone planning to audition for an NBYT musical production, anyone wanting to improv their dance auditions outside of NBYT, and those who just enjoy moving and dancing! Each term ends with the performance of a musical number that will highlight dance skills taught!

Improv: Ages 10-16
Saturdays, 11:50 am – 12:50 pm
8 weeks, $100

Participants get a basic understanding of improvisational theater concepts such as story building, environmental awareness, saying “yes,” and making and accepting dramatic offers. The group is introduced to short-form improv games designed to build teamwork and reinforce basic concepts. No prior experience in theater or improv is necessary, and participants will be able to take what they learn and use it to not only become better actors, but also better listeners and speakers. Returning students are challenged to expand their skills and stretch their choices. A short performance is held at the end of the final class.

NBYT Select Chorus:  Ages 12-18
Saturdays, 9:30 – 11:30 am
12+ weeks, $125

A musical performance group for experienced singers—focusing on music literacy, healthy vocal habits, choral techniques, and a wide variety of repertoire of all genres—that will rehearse for at least one performance each term and appearances at community events. Open to new members by audition.

SquishyTown Asylum Teen Improv Troupe:  Ages 12-18
Saturdays, 1:00 – 2:00 pm
12+ weeks, $125

NBYT’s troupe for experienced improv actors will perform at least once each term and at other community events and venues. Open by audition to new members with previous improv experience.
