Help NBYT Name an Ice Cream!

Frisbie's logoWhat children’s theater doesn’t love ice cream? Certainly not us!

That’s why we’re pretty proud and excited to announce a promotional partnership with Frisbie’s Dairy Barn in New Britain. We’ve personally tried a lot of the flavors at Frisbie’s, and we give them a standing ovation!

Not only will Frisbie’s and NBYT be helping to promote each other’s business, but Frisbie’s is going to give us an ice cream flavor!
And, here’s the BEST part, we’re holding a contest to help create and name the flavor! The winner will help to create the first batch of ice cream  and be invited to a kick-off event in January!

Just like any contest, we’ve got some rules and guidelines:

  1. The name and flavor should promote New Britain Youth Theater.
  2. Entries may be submitted by anyone of any age, and may be submitted individually or in teams of up to three people.
  3. There is no purchase or payment necessary to enter.
  4. Participants are limited to two entries per person, whether working individually or in teams.
  5. To enter, submit both an ice name and flavor that includes a base flavor and any mix-ins.
  6. Entries must be submitted to the NBYT Executive Director by 5:00 PM on January 6, 2016, in writing either by email to darren@nbyt.org or by delivery to the NBYT office at the New Britain-Berlin YMCA at 50 High Street in New Britain.
  7. The winning entry will be selected by a team of judges from New Britain Youth Theater and Frisbie’s Dairy Barn.
  8. By entering this contest, the winning participant agrees to forfeit any and all legal rights to the ice cream name and flavor.
  9. Neither New Britain Youth Theater nor Frisbie’s Dairy Barn makes any representation that the winning ice cream flavor will in fact be sold or for how long it may be sold.

Questions about the contest can also be directed to the Executive Director. Good luck—and get creative!

Secret Santa logoSecret Santa opens this Friday at New Britain Youth Theater! For a chance to win four tickets—to your choice of the Friday, Saturday or Sunday performance—just comment on this post with either the BEST or the WORST Secret Santa gift that you’ve ever received. (Be sure to specify whether it was the best or worst because, as you know, “one man’s trash….”) On Thursday, one “best gift” and one “worst gift” will be randomly chosen—so there’ll be two winners of four tickets each. Comments must be entered by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Winners will be notified through another post on this blog on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Tickets will be held at the door for pick-up. There is no purchase necessary to qualify or to to win.

Secret Santa tells the story of a school where outrageous pranks and selfish behavior bring down the Christmas season. Can the rumor that Santa’s own child is among them help to lift students’ spirits and finally make them behave? Filled with familiar Christmas music and a madcap Winter Carnival, the play was written by Denise Clapsaddle, author of last season’s I’m Getting Nothin’ for Christmas. The NBYT production, co-directed by Darren Farrington and Nicki LaPorte, will be the play’s premiere.

“This is a fun, fast-paced show that combines comedy, mystery and a feel-good Christmas message,” said Farrington, adding that the show stars children ages 5 through 14 and is appropriate for audiences of all ages. The cast of over forty children has come together from New Britain, Berlin, Bristol, Farmington, Middletown, Plainville, Southington, Torrington and West Hartford. The production’s venue, at Jefferson Elementary School located at 140 Horse Plain Road in New Britain near the Farmington border, is a 300-seat community performance space with recent renovations.

Secret Santawill be performed on Friday, December 7, at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, December 9, at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for children, students, and seniors. Special group rates are available for parties of ten or more. Tickets may be reserved by calling New Britain Youth Theater at 860-515-8115 or may be purchased online at Brown Paper Tickets.

NBYT is also collecting toys for the Hartford County office of Toys for Tots. New unwrapped toys may be donated at any one of the Secret Santa performances.
