For those of you who came to our fundraisers at Barnes & Noble and Moe’s Southwest Grille on May 28, thanks so much for joining us! We had a great time!
SquishyTown Asylum made their BlueBack Square debut with two scheduled performances, we treated passersby with a few outdoor musical selections, and many shoppers were interested in learning more about our awesome programs and upcoming shows like A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Wizard of Oz.
But the shopping fun isn’t over! Online purchases through Amazon Smile can benefit NBYT too!
When you shop through smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection, and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization. You can choose from nearly one million organizations to support—but of course we hope that you’ll choose NBYT!
Thanks to everyone who continually supports us. And please submit any fund-raising ideas you’d like to see us consider to our Facebook page, or email Marketing and Development Assistant Corina Lopes at email@example.com.
This is the first blog post written by Corina Lopes, Marketing and Development Assistant at NBYT. Parents and participants are welcome to contribute photos or blog posts about their experience with NBYT too.
Spring has finally decided to visit us in CT, and with the weather warming up so are we! The month of May is going to be sprinkled with fun adventures and tasty treats for you, your friends, and family to enjoy.
The best part: You get to celebrate Spring AND bring in funds and recognition to the best youth theater in CT (a.k.a. NBYT).
Are you in? Okay. Here’s all you have to do:
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 9 and Thursday, May 28.
Tell all your friends to mark their calendars, too.
On May 9, visit FroYo World in New Britain (across from CCSU campus) between the hours of 12 noon and 11:00 PM. Mention “New Britain Youth Theater” at the register and 20% of your order’s total will be donated to us. That’s a pretty sweet deal!
Food and Fun will be the order of the day on May 28,as NBYT takes over Blue Back Square in West Hartford! (Okay. So maybe “take over” is a slight exaggeration.) But join us at Barnes and Noble for an all-day event filled with kids’ story readings, improv performances by our teen troupe SquishyTown Assylum, musical performances, and a special bedtime event complete with two bedtime stories and a craft-time. We’ll also have stickers to wear, and mention or present the NBYT flier at the register (cafe counts, too) and 10 – 15% of your order will be donated to us!
The fiesta continues at Moe’s Mexican Grill in Blue Back Square, on May 28 from 5 – 8 PM! After applauding a performance and picking up that perfect read for your special graduate, your dad, or even yourself at Barnes and Noble, take a stroll around the corner and treat yourself to a tasty meal. Again, mention “New Britain Youth Theater” and a percentage of the order will be donated.
Tell all your friends to come out and join us for the fun!
We can’t wait to kick-off the Spring with food, friends, and fun. Help us continue to bring quality productions to children and their families in central CT by coming out and supporting us. Can’t wait to see you!
Singers and audience of all ages are wanted for an evening of show tunes karaoke to benefit NBYT on Saturday, March 23. We’re calling the event You Can’t Do THAT at NBYT!
Along with on-the-spot karaoke sign-ups for a few audience members, we’re also planning solo and group pieces that will rehearse a couple of times.
kid-friendly songs from not-so-kid-friendly shows (that we otherwise “can’t do at NBYT”)
songs from roles that performers would be wrong for, because of age, gender or type
group performances (of 2, 3, or more)
parents, family and other adult performers singing together with kids and teens
We’re also planning a large chorus for 2 or 3 songs. Do you have an idea for a song or just want to join in our chorus? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 860-515-8115 for more info or to join us.
What’s that? You’re not a singer? That’s great too. Tickets will be $10 each for this fun event of music and festivities, and all proceeds will benefit NBYT programming. Tickets will be on sale by March 1.
During Babe, the Sheep-Pig, NBYT auctioned and sold piggy banks as part of its Pig-stravaganza Art Show & Auction. But some piggy banks unfortunately were delivered after the event or didn’t find homes.
You can still get a piggy bank and help NBYT by offering $20.00 or more per pig. Be the first person to contact NBYT to secure the piggy bank you want! Banks can be picked up, delivered to some locations, or shipped for an additional $5.00 cost. Many of the remaining piggy banks were signed by on-air personalities from Channel 3 WFSB. Others were created by local artists and designers.
NBYT is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
This spring, New Britain Youth Theater will hold a Pig-stravaganza Art Show & Auction!
What exactly is a Pig-stravaganza?
This piggy-bank-painting event and auction has three goals: to help promote NBYT’s spring production of Babe, the Sheep-Pig, to raise funds for NBYT programming, and to help celebrate the first birthday of NBYT!
To reach these goals, NBYT is enlisting the help of the community, other artists, local businesses and organizations, and children and their families.
Area merchants and organizations can sponsor and display artist-designed piggy banks from mid-March through April 30; sponsors will be recognized in promotional materials and advertising and will receive tickets to Babe, the Sheep-Pig.
Artists and designers can paint or decorate a piggy bank and have their work displayed (at the Downtown Visitors Center and Gallery, among other locations) and auctioned to support NBYT; artists will also be listed in promotional materials and receive tickets to Babe, the Sheep-Pig. There is no cost for artists to participate and piggy banks are provided free of charge.
Celebrities will be invited to sign, decorate or paint piggy banks for auction.
Piggy banks will be auctioned at Trinity-on-Main Performance Center on Saturday, April 30, at an event before the first performance of Babe, the Sheep-Pig.
Children involved in NBYT programs will also be given a chance to decorate a piggy bank of their own to keep; these will be displayed in the lobby of Trinity-on-Main during the run of Babe, the Sheep Pig from April 29 through May 1.
We’re hoping to receive much community support and to draw attention to other New Britain businesses, organizations and nonprofits as well as NBYT!
For more information on how to paint or decorate a piggy bank (whether you’re a professional or amateur artist or designer) or how to support or be part of NBYT’s Pig-stravaganza! call 860-515-8115. We’ll be adding lists of artists and event sponsors as they come in!
